Our Company is seeking a detail-driven Lead Staff Accountant to own day-to-day Payroll and Accounts Payable while supporting period-end close and special projects for our Senior Accountant and Controller . This role is ideal for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, tightening processes, and being the go-to partner across Finance and Operations.
Responsibilities
Payroll (Primary) Prepare, review, and process multi-state payroll (hourly/exempt), ensuring accuracy of hours, earnings, deductions, and benefits. Reconcile payroll registers to the GL; post journals and maintain payroll-related balance sheet accounts. Manage payroll changes (new hires, terminations, comp changes), garnishments, and year-end W-2/W-3 support. Liaise with HR/People Ops and third-party providers; ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Accounts Payable (Primary) Oversee the full AP cycle: vendor setup/W-9s, 3-way match, coding, approvals, and weekly payment runs. Maintain vendor relationships, resolve discrepancies, and optimize payment terms and early-pay discounts. Reconcile AP aging; ensure accurate accruals and cut-off for month-end. Accounting Support Assist the Senior Accountant/Controller with month-end close (journals, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, reconciliations). Support audits (financial, sales/use tax, payroll) and help refine accounting policies and internal controls. Partner cross-functionally on cost controls, budget vs. actuals, and process automation/cleanup.
3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful ownership of payroll and AP . Solid understanding of GAAP, month-end close, and account reconciliations. Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage) and payroll platforms (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, Paychex, Gusto). Advanced Excel/Sheets (lookups, pivots); comfort with AP automation tools (e.g., Acumatica) a plus. Meticulous attention to detail, excellent follow-through, and strong communication. Nice to have: multi-entity or multi-state experience; exposure to inventory/cost accounting; process documentation, SOP building. Any food and beverage experience.
