Job Purpose: The HR Director plays a critical role in executing the people strategy set by the VP of HR. This role leads key HR functions such as employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, and compliance for Lucas Oil Products and additional lines of business within the Lucas family. Reporting directly to the VP of HR, this role plays a critical part in shaping a positive workplace culture, driving HR initiatives, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals and legal requirements.
HR Team Leadership
Supervise HR team members, fostering a high-performing, service-oriented culture. Promote cross-functional collaboration to ensure HR initiatives support broader business objectives. Act as a strategic partner to senior leadership, advising on people-related decisions and organizational design. Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented environment within the HR team. Conduct regular one-on-one and team coaching sessions to build HR competencies and confidence. Encourage professional development through certifications, workshops, and peer learning.
Employee Relations
Lead the development and execution of employee relations strategies that foster a respectful, fair, and legally compliant workplace. Manage conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures with consistency and transparency. Provide guidance and mentorship to HR staff on handling sensitive employee relations issues with professionalism and consistency. Coach team members on conducting investigations, documenting findings, and facilitating conflict resolution. Coach supervisors on effective communication, empathy, and policy enforcement.
Compliance & Policy Management
Ensure HR policies and practices comply with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations. Maintain and update employee handbooks, HR documentation, and internal procedures. Lead audits and risk assessments to ensure compliance and mitigate potential liabilities. Serve as the primary point of contact for legal and regulatory HR matters.
Talent Acquisition & Employee Lifecycle Management
Act as a culture ambassador, promoting shared values and purpose throughout the employee lifecycle. Direct the full-cycle recruitment process, including sourcing, interviewing, selection, and onboarding for all corporate-level positions and advise on efforts for manufacturing and Lucas Oil Golf Course talent acquisition efforts. Support recruiters and HR partners in developing strategic sourcing plans and improving candidate engagement. Review and provide feedback on job descriptions, interview guides, and selection criteria to ensure alignment with organizational goals. Collaborate with hiring managers to forecast staffing needs and improve hiring processes. Champion employer branding and candidate experience initiatives. Implement tools and metrics to track hiring effectiveness, time-to-fill, and candidate experience.
Performance Management & Development
Drive performance management processes including goal-setting and feedback systems. Partner with business leaders and the Learning and Development Manager to develop team members through structured growth pathways and professional development.
Qualifications:
8+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field preferred. Deep expertise in talent acquisition, employment law and HR best practices. Recognized as a structured thinker, problem solver, expert communicator, and trusted advisor. Proven ability to build and maintain trusting relationships across all levels of the organization. Willingness to take initiative, embrace change, and demonstrate courageous decision-making. Demonstrates pride and ownership in delivering high-quality work with enthusiasm and attention to detail, regardless of the task's complexity or scope. Physical Requirements:
This person must be able to sit indoors, in an indoor, climate-controlled environment, for long periods of time. This person must be able to look at a computer screen or television monitor for long periods of time. Must be able to travel.
