The Blueprint (Role Profile)
Reporting to Director of Engineer, this position plays a crucial role with responsibilities that include research, development, and successful launches of new products to the market. Candidates should have a strong grasp of engineering principles, including theoretical foundations of mechanical and electrical engineering, with in-depth experience in the design of electromechanical devices.
The Build (Responsibilities)
-Subject Matter Expert on electromechanical devices, including theory, application and test across a range of products.
-Experience with battery optimization techniques for cordless power tools.
-A key source of knowledge and authority in the technologies, processes, and cost drivers around electromechanical designs, motors, and batteries.
-Manage and execute cost, quality, and schedule deliverables for new product development projects, quality improvement projects, and cost reduction programs.
-Interact directly with our internal business units and global integrated supply chain teams to effectively contribute to new product development and support of quality, reliability, and cost reduction projects
-Facilitate technical design reviews as part of the product development process and facilitate design reviews with external suppliers with a focus on design for manufacturability across a range of manufacturing processes and assembly.
-Using excellent verbal and written skills, effectively communicate with domestic and international cross-functional associates to resolve issues and optimize designs for manufacturability and efficiency.
-Work closely with the Project Management Office team to ensure project schedules are achieved. Actively drive NPD projects with strong sense of urgency and action.
The Toolbox (Qualifications)
-B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar applicable engineering discipline, from an ABET accredited institution.
-Years of Experience: 7+ experience working with design and manufacturing of electromechanical products.
-Innovative thinker - able to envision new and better ways to do things.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with domestic and international cross-functional associates.
-Experience in executing complex problem-solving techniques related to design/technical issues.
-Excellent analytical skills, and good instincts and sound judgment for mechanical and structural design.
-Ability to plan, organize, and implement multiple concurrent tasks.
-Strong working knowledge and experience with various manufacturing and finishing processes (injection molding, machining, casting, forging, heat treatment, anodizing, powder coat, etc.), tolerances, fits & finishes, and GD&T.
-Strong CAD user – CREO, SolidWorks, NX, etc. CREO is preferred.
-Ability to travel approximately 10%, both domestic and international.
-Experience with Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience a plus.
-Ability to facilitate, lead, teach or execute the use of PPAP, DFM/DFA, DVP&R, DFMEA and PFMEA.
