The Facilities Operator plays a vital role in ensuring our Town's buildings and gathering spaces are safe, welcoming, and well-maintained for all who use them. This position goes beyond routine maintenance-it's about delivering exceptional service, supporting sustainability, and helping create spaces that foster health, wellbeing, and inclusiveness. Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 with occasional nights or weekends to support special events.
All new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of employment may then be made contingent upon the successful completion of a drug test.

Essential Functions:
Supports building operations through hands-on maintenance, custodial care, and routine safety inspections to ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming.
Performs general handyman tasks and preventative maintenance in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry; coordinates and oversees contractors for specialized repairs and inspections.
Sets up, breaks down, and prepares rooms, equipment, and spaces for classes, recreation programs, and special events; assists with supply collection and event support.
Maintains accurate records of preventative maintenance, safety inspections, and supply inventories; ensures compliance with safety, fire, and building codes.
Operates and maintains facility equipment and tools, ensuring proper care, safe use, and readiness for ongoing maintenance and custodial needs.
Provides excellent service by supporting staff, patrons, and community programs, fostering safe, functional, and inclusive spaces.
Periodically assists with special events by supporting logistics such as setup, takedown, and operational needs to ensure successful community gatherings.
Custodial Duties:
Cleans and maintains buildings and peripheries, including maintenance of floors by stripping, cleaning, waxing, buffing, gutter leaf, and trash collection.
Perform routine and deep cleaning: dusting, disinfecting, sweeping, vacuuming, replacing, and replenishing supplies, washing walls and windows, and cleaning restrooms.
Checks schedule for daily/weekly programs/activities; and prepares rooms as needed.
Sets up and break down equipment such as tables, chairs and AV equipment, etc., for programs and events
Facility Maintenance:
VPerform general handyman repairs and troubleshooting in plumbing (unclog drains, fix leaks), HVAC (replace filters, basic diagnostics), electrical (replace switches, outlets, lighting), and carpentry (minor framing, drywall patching, painting).
Visually inspect and test machinery to detect malfunction.
Conduct monthly maintenance and safety inspection.
Work with DPW in conjunction with outside contractors to ensure all construction, repair and maintenance specifications are met.
Oversee the proper operation of all mechanical systems for the recreations facilities.
Evaluate equipment breakdowns and perform basic mechanical/electrical diagnostics and repairs.
Procurement of maintenance and repair supplies and maintain replacement and spare parts for the facility and equipment.
Service the equipment as needs arise and following supervisors' instructions.
Manages routine and preventative maintenance and coordinates contractors for systems such as HVAC, elevators, health and safety inspections, and other facility needs.
Maintains long term preventative maintenance plan.
Maintains accurate and complete records of preventative maintenance activities and safety data sheets.
Secure facilities and comply with safety, fire and building codes.
Clearly mark and secure areas undergoing maintenance work.
Supports the care of buildings to provide safe and functional spaces for programs, staff, and the community. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals.
Performs inventory of supplies.
Operates various equipment including floor cleaners, floor varnisher, leaf blower, drills, vertical lift, vacuum cleaner.
Additional Duties :
Pick up litter and debris around buildings and recreation areas.
Provides back-up support.
Performs related work as assigned.
Supports special events by collecting necessary supplies, setting up facilities and equipment, and assisting with takedown and cleanup.
